“Not quite paradise but close”
Due to our late booking, we had the opportunity to sample three of the room types. It was a bit of a pain moving twice but we made do. Things that are positive about Captain Hook... the staff, the staff, the staff. Everyone was so very pleasant, helpful and engaging. The food was good, the bartender and their drinks, delicious and the activities and transport easy and quick. When you wanted to leave the resort, you only had to wait minutes for the boat to take you. Same for being picked up to come back to the resort. The less positives. The first room we stayed in was the Deluxe Villa. The beds, of which there were three in our villa, were hard and uncomfortable and the pillows, the same. The shower in the bathroom was so powerful it would have given me bruises had I not jumped out of the way quickly, but the water was instantly hot (too hot at first but better once the cold water kicked in) and plentiful. The next room we stayed in was the Mini Pool Villa - Modern Style (#8). This was very lovely in that it had it's own mini pool on a large deck overlooking the Gulf with lounge chairs and an outdoor shower. Sunsets were spectacular from our viewpoint. The bed, unfortunately, was also hard as were the pillows but the shower didn't try to take my head off when I turned it on. The last room we occupied was the Mini Pool Villa - Tropical Style. Apparently this villa had been recently renovated and the bed and pillows were waaaaay better (we stayed in #4). The deck and pool were smaller than the previous villa and there were bean bag chairs rather than loungers but we had a great sleep! FYI there are no mini fridges in any of the rooms, nor is there a safe. We read through some of the reviews and one said to bring snacks, so we did and that was helpful information. We also brought wine and were able to get a ice bucket and wine glasses to enjoy a drink in our villa to watch the sunsets. Our only other complaint was some of the other guests were selfish and inconsiderate. The first two nights we were woken in the middle of the night. The first night (at 2:30 a.m.) by other occupants yelling as they walked by our villa to theirs. The second night, woken at 1:30 a.m. by loud music which went on and on. Apparently there isn't a noise curfew at the resort so if your other guests are there to party, no one shuts them down at a reasonable hour. Thankfully, those guests left and we were able to enjoy the tranquility that is advertised. This was our most expensive accommodation for our 3 week vacation in Thailand. My suggestion, if you're going to pay the money, reserve the better villas .
