Abashiri hotels & places to stay

Very nice hotel in Abashiri with good facilities. There is a free flow of coffee, cocoa and tea and free ramen every night for hotel guests which is a good bonus. Staffs were extremely friendly. Rooms are a bit too small but not claustrophobic specially the bathrooms. But over all a good experience. We stayed at 6 different hotel in Hokkaido and this was difinately one of the best hotels we stayed at. The facilities in room along with the amenities were amazing. Staffs spoke good English and were very helpful and friendly. Location is very good with a 7-11 right opposite the hotel. Parking is charged at 600 yens per night.

The rooms with attached private onsen are huge and they do a good job of replicating the onsen experience in room. The normal rooms are quaint and clean though slightly dated looking. The public onsen has hot stone sauna and a selection of complementary skincare products to try. A good onsen hotel to stay in Abashiri especially if you are not comfortable with using a public onsen.

If you don't stay at this hotel, you'll be missing a most unique and wonderful experience. We were greeted at the beautiful lobby with cool jazz music, and checked into a spacious and well designed Tatami room. Unfortunately they didn't have wifi in the room, so we proceeded to the lobby to use the wifi... and we were greeted by a family of 7-8 wild deers on the hotel gardens...just a few feet away from the large viewing windows the hotel had installed. The dinner was also wonderful, a mix of Japanese and French fusion... worthy of a 5 star restaurant. The staff were of the highest standards. This is a wonderful hotel with too many good points to mention. If you go to Hokkaido, this hotel is way ahead of the pack and well worth the amount you pay. I wish we had stayed longer....

Collection by free courtesy car from the Abashiri station some 15 km from the Royokan made getting there a trouble free experience. The outside of the hotel is rather uninteresting but once inside one gets a real taste of traditional Japanese style. The bedroom with it's adjoining tea room was absolutely charming and the all important Onsen before dinner most enjoyable to share with my partner rather than the usual strangers of the same sex. Dinner was a real feast for a foreigner used to buffet offerings and uneducated in the finer points of balanced Japanese cuisine. Air conditioned rooms overlook the beautiful Notoro-ko lake just 200 m away and the breakfast was the best I have experienced in Japan. Forget the big 4* Onsen offerings and get down to Kagariya to experience how it should be done..and don't miss a visit to the Abashiri Jail Museum..it's the only one of it kind in Japan ..the hotel courtesy bus driver will be happy to drop you off there.

We had the traditional Japanese rooms which were large and our kids had a blast rolling all over the tatami. There were also 2 twin beds in the room so it's a hybrid traditional Japanese/regular hotel room. The hot spring was large with 3 pools with different temperatures and an outdoor section. My 2 boys aged 7 and 5 had their first hot spring experience here and they absolutely loved it. It's a 5 minute drive to downtown Abashiri where there are more dining options. The included breakfast was good. The staff were very warm and attentive and gave us a send off on our departure waving our country's flags! Although a large hotel, it had a family run feel to it.

We stayed here for a night as we were planning on doing the Abashiri Drift Ice tour. Location is excellent as it is just opposite the Abashiri JR station. Bus stations connecting to all the tourist attractions such as drift ice, prison museum and Memanbetsu airport nearby the hotel. FREE breakfast a la Japanese style. And certain days has free dinner which was curry rice. Similar to most Hotels here in Hokkaido, the facilities and amenities are pretty great and cater to most of our needs. If there were any dissatisfactions (very minimal), the check-in staff could be a bit more courteous and polite. Room a bit small but not too much of a problem.

Definitely a MUST stay guest house in Abashiri. You can experience a stay in a farm house. The room we are staying is very clean and nicely decorated. Owner is super nice, she likes to talk to the guest, although our Japanese is not that good, and in the morning, she makes coffee for us. Can park for free in front of their house. With this price, it's really worth to stay here for an experience.

Hostel was clean and managed by a friendly couple. Breakfast can be arranged for a fee. There are microwave, toaster, hot and cold water available at the main hall. Do bring your own bath towel, as it is not provided or get one for a fee. Place is quiet, rest assured for a good night rest. Daikon patches were just nearby. A pity it was raining throughout our stay. Unable to get a closer look at the Daikon. Owner mentioned they were harvested for sugar.

This place is further than the rest of the other hotels in Abashiri, but the owner is very nice and friendly elderly gentleman. To get there: turn left when you get out of the station and keep walking down the main road until you pass a restaurant with a crab sign (about 200m). Keep walking a bit further then take the next left, and walk down that street to cross the railway tracks. Then turn left again and keep walking (about 50m) until you see the Minshuku lamp sign (which is in Japanese). The owner can show you an alternative way through the carpark which is faster as well (walk through the station carpark then cross the tracks, then walk right down the road a bit more) The room is basic and you have to make your own futon, but there's a great heater (need to keep turning it back on every 2 hours tho), and fast wifi in the room. You can also order a basic breakfast of hokkaido milk + bun if you'd like. The owner can let you know what time the buses depart from the station for the ice breaking cruise, and allowed me to leave my bags in my room and stay in there for a late check out. There's is a western toilet and a japanese toilet, and a japanese style bathroom with a hot tub to soak in after showering. Overall the place has character, and the owner too! If you'd like something a bit different to the usual business hotels then I'd definitely recommend checking this place out!
