Nice and friendly staffs. Especially the Assistant Manager? , Mr Wu Thein Fei, who was extremely help full when my wife had a small incident at the hotel. Perfectly situated between the Drum tower and the South Wall Gate (with steps to the top of the wall), the Garden Hotel is a very welcoming spot. I'm not anti-smoking and you can smoke in the lobby, but when this pervades throughout the hotel and the rooms, its just not good. But I guess a lot of people smoke. The grottoes are fantastics. Easy to go by bus by yourself. The best dumplings I have never eaten. It is good for shopping.
Little town a bit dirty. Everything is quite cheap there compared to other cities in China. The people are friendly but very few of them can speak English.
Don't travel here during Chinese holidays. The Hanging Temple was super crowded, long lines... We were here during the April holiday.
