"During the peak season when the hotels in Kyoto are extremely expensive, this hotel that is 25 mins by Shinkansen away from Kyoto (no problem if using the Japan Rail Pass) remains reasonably price. Furthermore, it is just right next to the JR Maibara station, and is a very new facility (so almost everything is in perfect condition). Will stay here again when I go to Japan Kyoto for Koyo."

"If you chose to go to the Maibara area, I strongly suggest you visit Samegai-juku. Part of the old Nakasendo trail, Samegai offers a great immersion in japan's countryside history and traditionnal architecture. Much to my surprise, the true highlight of our visit was our stay at the Guesthouse Izame Ann! With a great location and superb japanese vintage architecture, Izame Ann was off to a good start. However, it is really the outstanding hospitality of the employees and owner that makes this place feels like home. If you have the chance, I suggest you stay for dinner. This will be an opportunity to discuss with the very welcoming people of Izame Ann that made us feel like family (they have good english too!). The food was also delicious, authentic and freshly prepared. Honestly, I think Izame Ann guesthouse in itself is worth the ride to Samegai. It was my third time in Japan and this was definitely one of my highlights. "
