“Nice place but never recommend apartment for multiple day stay”
We booked a private 2-bedroom apartment within Lotus Desaru Resort for a 3-night family trip. The resort itself was wonderful—friendly staff, clean surroundings, easy access to the beach, good food, and plenty of activities for all ages. However, even though the apartment is located within the resort premises, I wouldn’t recommend staying in it for more than one night due to the following reasons: • No daily housekeeping (cleaning is only done before check-in and after check-out) • No replenishment of toiletries • No refills of drinking water • No complimentary breakfast (this was mentioned at the time of booking, which I overlooked, but for a multi-day stay, daily breakfast costs can add up significantly for a family) Regarding the apartment itself: We had concerns related to both safety and functionality: • The safe for storing valuables was not operational • The sliding door in the living room could not be locked properly Other issues we encountered: • One toilet flush was completely non-functional • The second toilet had a faulty flush button that required manual adjustment to stop the water flow • On the day of checkout, the lift was out of service, and we had to carry our luggage and small child down two floors, which was quite inconvenient We reported all these issues to the apartment owner. He responded promptly and said he would arrange for someone to come and fix them. Unfortunately, no one ever showed up. He later informed us that, due to unforeseen circumstances, he couldn’t get anyone to attend to the issues. As compensation, he offered a refund of SGD**. While the amount was minimal considering the level of inconvenience, we accepted it. In summary: I would stay at the Lotus Desaru Resort again, but only in their official resort rooms—not the privately-owned apartments—for multi-day stays. The small amount saved by booking a private apartment instead of a resort-managed room is likely to be spent anyway on things like breakfast, drinking water, and basic necessities that aren’t included with the apartment.
