this is my second stay with dormy premium shibuya. -not much have changed, cleanliness and facilities. however i needed an open space to work with my laptop - my roof is a little cramped hence i asked the staff if i could use the lounge - they declined the request as the area was closed as supper time was over. I just needed a space and not requesting supper, hence it is a surprise for a returning customer . would be great if there is a common area for customer to sit down and read or do work as room may not have the best setting
Great hotel with spa”
Reasonably priced hotels with their own spa/onsen are limited. We’ve started at several Dormy Inn Hotels in Japan and have been pleased with all of them. The staff here are friendly and helped us to call for taxis and to modify a restaurant reservation. They are hard-working and bring in a smaller hotel, have to work both at the front desk and kitchen/dining areas. The rooms are very clean, but the Western-style rooms have very firm mattresses and pillows, seemingly typical of most Japanese hotels. The location is about 10-15 minutes walk from the nearest train and subway stations, and also from Harajuku. The best things about Dormy Inns are their nightly free soba from 9-11 pm; buffet breakfasts (for reasonable cost); free water, ice, coffee, and tea in the lobby 24/7; and the onsen. This hotel also had free yogurt drinks in the morning and ice pops and ice cream bars at night. Very addicting! The women’s onsen also had one Dyson hair dryer that was pretty popular, so I only got to use it once in 5 days. They also have washing machines and dryers in both the men’s and women’s baths so it’s convenient to bath while doing your laundry. If we’re in the area again we’d love to stay here.
Exceptional service and condition, but the noise.. ”
The service and the room condition was very exceptional, and mostly I loved the public bathhouse that it was nice to have the facilities clean and be able to use them whenever I want. (+free yogurt drink in the morning and ice cream at night). BUT the location is right beside the subway station. It is very loud that it is hard to get sleep until the late night. I could hear it even if I wore earplugs. I would hardly recommend to ask for a room far from the railroad when checking in.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great. The hotel is about a 10-minute walk from both Shibuya and Harajuku stations, which is convenient for exploring the area. However, the room was quite small for two adults and two children, and it felt even more cramped with our luggage. Cleanliness was also an issue; I noticed black spots on the bed linens, and the window ledges had dust in the crevices. The staff wasn’t particularly friendly. It seemed that they were only comfortable greeting Japanese guests, and didn’t offer much warmth or interaction with others. They were mostly unresponsive unless you had a direct question, giving off a somewhat robotic vibe. If the staff's demeanor isn’t a big concern for you, then it might be an acceptable choice, but it was a letdown for me.

This was our least favorite stay during our 23 days and 9 hotels in Japan. The staff was the least warm and welcoming, the room was tiny and smelled like chemicals, the “pillows” were thin and hard and you only get one (we asked for more and they were not available). That said, if you’re young or on a budget, it should work just fine, considering the excellent location, free ramen, free ice cream, and availability of the onsen (though, no tattoos allowed). Their pajamas were comfortable and the laundry was super affordable. I would say “fine” if they had decent pillows.
