"stayed there 3 days together with my friend. it's a big resort with many rooms and a big nice garden. sea was very close but was too wavy for me so i preferred to lie next to pool that was nice and calm. lamai beach's main street was about 15-20 min walk away. with a bike u could go and see many sights nearby, some waterfalls, mummified monk, hin ta and hin yai etc. we took a standard room, it was well equipped - aircon, tv, fridge etc."

"We booked 8 nights here to be close to the WMC Muay Thai training camp, and to be honest some of the reviews were pretty damning. However we were very surprised when we arrived that the hotel property is very charming, grounds kept in beautiful condition and wowzers the pool! What a fantastic pool area with plenty of space and day beds a MAJOR bonus for this low cost hotel. The breakfast included each day was VERY good value with a chef station for eggs along with standard cereal, fresh fruit, toast and a few selections of thai food each day. The staff are friendly and approachable, the rooms spacious and fantastic views from the balcony (we stayed in a superior room facing the pool). The restaurant prices are comparable to food outside, along with the massage service so there is no reason to leave the hotel! My only feedback is the patchy wi-fi which is pretty terrible but it doesnt work in the rooms but not essential to be connected 24/7. I will defiantly be coming back!"

"From the moment we arrived, the staff at WSSR was incredibly helpful and kind. The resort is tucked away, quiet, beautiful, and kept very clean at all times. We stayed in a pool view room and appreciated all of the thoughtful, unexpected amenities in the room. The beach in front of the resort is kept incredibly clean, the pools kept clean, plenty of lounge and beach chairs. The resort provides affordable massage services on the beach, which was nice. The resort isn’t in the center of Lamai, but is about a 15-20 minute walk away and a 5 minute drive away. Hin Tai and Hin Yi (grandfather and grandmother rock) are literally next door to the resort. If you are looking for a quieter get away but with easy access to the busier areas of Samui, this resort is perfect!"

"an excellent location, on a main street and just 2-3 minutes walk from the beach. lovely, super-clean rooms, excellent bathroom with the best shower so far in southeastern asia. very fast & free wifi and quiet a/c. the staff is superb, they clean your room and change towels and bedlinen on daily basis. it had been raining for 3 days in samui, so the roads were flooding. it was an adventure to get to the airport from the hotel. thankfully the hotel manager himself drove me to airport as he was worried i couldn't make it on time if going by normal taxi. one of the best-valued hotels so far during my travels in southeast asia. truly a good value for your money."

"We stayed at Varinda for 5 days in the beginning of october. We wanted to stay longer but they had no available rooms (since it´s such an awesome hotel and everyone wants to stay there). The hotel is beautiful and has a very unusual design. It feels like you´re staying on the Black Pearl! Even if you don´t stay at this hotel you should at least go look at it. The rooms are cool and located far away from the noice. And it´s like you live in a treehouse. Maybe not the best idea if you are handicapped or have a baby, since you have to pass some terrain to get to the rooms. But for us it was perfect. The staff in the reception are awesome to. And they have 2 gigantic dogs that always want to play with you. The staff in the restaurant is also great, and the food aswell. The breakfast-buffet has everything you need witch is rare in Samui. It takes about 2 min to get to the mainstreet with all the shops. That´s if you take the shortcut wich is a set of very steep stars. Also not suitable for people with heavy strollers etc. But if so you can walk another way wich takes about 10 min. We tried to get a room for 14 more nights but Varinda seems to be fully booked all the time. So now we stay at "Grand thai house resort" and it´s terrible. I want to go back to Varinda so bad. "

"I really like this hotel. It is a small hotel but you don't really feel it because they way it is set up makes you feel like you are hidden in a tropical land and you care barely see the edge of the hotel. you only see trees and plants! You have your own bungalow covered with tropical trees and lovely plants and flowers. The hotel is very clean and the staff is very friendly. They always watch out for what you need. The guest service was nice. The food was great. Location is great too. I think it's one of the best spot on Lamai beach. "

"What to say about Sarocha? We got off to a bad start when I inquired about an airport pick-up and transfer, advising I would like one and giving my flight details. I got a reply stating a cab would cost THB 600 and then asking did I want a pick-up (?) and what were my flight details. I gave the answers, again, and asked for confirmation - which I never got. Nor did I get picked up and had to arrange my own transfer on arrival at Samui airport. Sarocha had been recommended to me and I'd booked on that basis, including breakfast. On arrival I was advised their restaurant was closed for renovation (not that anything seemed to be happening) - but to their credit they arranged for a satisfactory breakfast to be brought to me each day. I knew the place had no pool - it was not evident it also had no beach at all, simply a raised sand covered terrace, and that the whole bay front was rocks. Bungalows were clean, but very basic. Mine had a small and very basic kitchen attached. The place was riddled with mosquitoes, day and night, and around half the place seemed to be inhabited by resident long-stayers, complete with their own dogs! The biggest drawback is that the place is a long way from anywhere, at a minimum 10 minutes or so up/downhill from Hin Ta/Hin Yai and that end of Lamai Beach, and a good half hour from the main part of Lamai Beach and the centre of Lamai town. The staff were very pleasant and helpful when required; the long term stayers made one feel like one was intruding on their territory. Was it totally awful ... no. Was it very good ... no. Would I stay there again? No way. Would I recommend you stay there - no. With apologies to the staff and owners, but the place just did not appeal."
