    Charming Ryokan with Kaiseki Meals”

My most recent trip in December 2024 was to Tokyo, Sapporo, and Noboribetsu. Without a doubt my stay at Kashoutei Hanaya Ryokan was the highlight of my entire trip. It is a charming Ryokan that offers Kaiseki meals which are all delicious and give you the opportunity to try delicious fresh food you may not otherwise try. Natto wasn't really for me but I am glad I had the opportunity to try it as well as many other foods. The staff were exceptionally friendly and understanding of my limited Japanese language skills. I am not sure any of them are fluent in English, but communication was not really hindered. If you are respectful and learn a little bit about the culture before visiting you will get the most out of it. That being said, if you make even a small effort to use some basic phrases they will surely appreciate your effort so don't be afraid to try. I would also recommend a little background on Ryokan and Onsen etiquette as that level of respect for culture also goes a long way. The in room bathroom had the fanciest toilet I have had at a hotel in Japan. However I never used my shower once because the Onsen was fantastic. There is an indoor Onsen and a Rotenburo (outdoor Onsen) separated by men and women. These rotate each day so you get to experience both. I have never had a more peaceful and fulfilling experience than when I enjoyed a wonderful Kaiseki dinner and then relaxed in the Rotenburo each night. Being in the mountains of a scenic onsen town with snow falling lightly around you while you soak your troubles away is an experience that words cannot adequately describe. I cannot recommend this Ryokan enough if you are thinking of visiting Hokkaido. It is worth the short bus trip to get yourself to Noboribetsu. Don't get me wrong it was COLD. It snowed every day while I was in Hokkaido regardless of the town, but I wouldn't trade that experience for anything. どもあっりがとございました、 クリス

    The best Ryokan in Hokkaido”

It was the best accommodation where I could experience all the ambiance, atmosphere, and antiquity of Japan. I am not someone who usually leaves reviews, but I received the most human and excellent service from the staff's warm attitude, kindness, and care compared to any other place. The hot spring was a perfect sulfur bath. Both the kaiseki dinner and breakfast were a happy experience where I could feel traditional Japanese home cooking. My wife said it was an experience of eating a lot and resting well at her Japanese grandmother's house. The ryokan's shuttle bus schedule is perfectly aligned with the train times between Sapporo and Noboribetsu, and a vehicle the size of a Starex comes to pick you up, with the driver helping you with your luggage. If you are planning a trip to Hokkaido and don't want a large ryokan that feels like a training center, this is the place to go. I am not good at English, but I will try to explain my experience to share my best hotel in Japan. For someone who wants a traditional Japanese mood for a new experience and relaxation, this inn (the word means hotel in Japanese) is the best choice. I wrote this review with my own writing ability. I know the ChatGPT AI is a better writer. However, I strongly hope my emotions and thoughts about this ryokan do not get changed by AI. IT MEANS I ABSOLUTELY LOVE AND RECOMMEND THIS INN!!!

    A beautiful stay”

I think I got an exceptional deal in my two night stay. First night I stayed in a Japanese style room for the first time. It was clean and comfortable if a little bit in need of an update. Dinner and breakfast were amazing and served in the room. After dinner the staff set the room for sleeping. Onsen was beautiful and the outdoor bath was amazing. Night two was a western style room, which was also beautiful. Felt a little cramped compared to the Japanese style room, but beautifully renovated. Too many amenities to list. Dinner and breakfast in the room were again amazing. Dinner was a completely different menu from the first night which given that there are thirty or more components is very impressive. I loved my stay here. Thanks for everything!

A place where you can quietly feel at ease.”

This is a nice private accommodation that is not overly commercialized like typical Japanese ryokans. It is a bit far from Hell Valley, so there are no convenience stores nearby, but it's perfect if you enjoy the hot spring after making reservations for breakfast and dinner. All the front desk staff are friendly, and there are staff members who speak English well, while others try their best to understand and help. I stayed in a tatami room, which was clean and spacious enough for one person. The bathroom was also clean, and although the outdoor bath is said to be small, there weren't many people using it, and the water was hot, allowing me to enjoy it quietly for a long time. I'd love to stay here again when I come back to Noboribetsu. The shuttle bus service was also very convenient!

    Beautiful, peaceful stay”

The room was Japanese tatami style, very clean and simple. The view out of the room window was gorgeous, with some hills, stream, and snow. The onsen water was comfortable and the outdoor part was beautiful. The dinner and breakfast that came with the room were local products and served intricately. It was all very delicious. The staff were also all very polite and nice. If you take a bus from Noboribetsu station, get off at Tsutsujibashi bus stop, backtrack a little and cross the road to the ryokan. Walking to jigokudani takes around 20 minutes and you will pass by souvenir shops and convenience stores along the way.
