A hotel where the good taste of the owner shines through.”

Entering from the entrance with a charming and emotional atmosphere, I sat in the tea room and felt the host's attention to detail and hospitality through the "Hibi Kore Koujitsu" scroll. Throughout the hallway, there were various lovely furniture pieces from the Taisho era. In the free space, there were tatami mats on raised floors with Go and Shogi boards set up, making it a very enjoyable space. It would be great if they had rakugo performances or something similar there. Additionally, not only were the rooms nice, but the large public bath was also clean and beautiful! I haven't been this satisfied with a hotel in years. My only regret was that there were no good restaurants near the Yubatake, so I should have eaten and drank at the hotel instead. I also thought that the staff were very friendly and well-trained.

Twin room beds the best”

We stayed 2 nights but had to change rooms due to sold out rooms. So the first night was a twin bed western style bed in a Japanese room. It was Soo spacious and I loved it. Bed and pilllow was nice and firm. The room was super clean too. Came with air con and heater. I also selected the room with toilet but it’s just a sink and toilet bowl which was essential for me. Loved this room a lot. Second night we changed to an even bigger Japanese style room with futon beds. Frankly I preferred the smaller room cause this Japanese style room had plenty of wasted space on the perimeter of the room that was just unusable. It was also located at the 3rd floor and lugging your big cargo bag down the flight of stairs was absolute torture. The hotel breakfast was simple and edible. But it’s only a fixed set menu. First night we chose to have dinner in the hotel and it was yummy except for the duck which was too raw for our liking. They have an onsen and the main shower area for guests to shower at. It was spacious and clean. Not super big in size but very comfortable and everything was so well maintained. Onsen was also a good size. Overall, I would definitely recommend this ryokan even though it was on the pricier side compared to other ryokans I’ve been to before in other prefectures. Or it could be a weekend holiday pricing. Staff were all polite and nice, which was a definite plus too. And they have a free shuttle service to the bus terminal which really helped cause our bags were just too bulky for the 550m walk to the bus terminal and the slope was too precarious looking to be lugging a big bag. Haha. Blame our shopping though.

Fabolous stay”

If I had known Kusatsu was such a relaxing town, I would have planned to stay for 2-3 days to explore it more thoroughly. My stay at Kusatsu Hotel 1913 was a highlight of the trip. This 112-year-old hotel seamlessly blends its rich history with modern comfort after a meticulous renovation. From the moment you step into the room, the soothing scent of wood creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The hotel's architecture reflects traditional Japanese design, with touches of elegance and art that transport you back in time. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring every guest feels welcome. The onsen facilities were exceptional, offering a truly rejuvenating experience. I would definitely return to Kusatsu Hotel 1913 to relive its unique charm and immerse myself in its history and art.

Hoshitsukiyo Triple Room with Hot Spring Bath
Stayed 1 night in May 2024

Traditional but modern hotel! Classy and beautiful!!! ”

The location is great and convenient! It was a 6-minute walk to the Yubatake and shopping area! The room was booked for my brother, his wife and their 6-year-old daughter. They stayed at the Hoshitsukiyo Triple Room with Hot Spring Bath - Non-Smokingroom, room 121 which is a bit far away from the lobby, need to walk in-depth 1 level down, but no worry about the luggage, the staff will help to carry it from the lobby and move out during check-out. The room is spaciously large at 52 square meters! Clean and tidy Japanese room with Tatami and western bed, and a big living room, very comfortable to stay! There are 2 A/C in the room to provide cold or warm comfortable indoor temperatures. The room and the corridor are a bit dark for those who want to enjoy a star night in the room, however, it was a rainy day during our stay. The in-room private hot spring water pull-out speed was very fast, the bath tank can fill up in a few minutes without waiting! You can adjust cold water to fit yourself to enjoy a great private time. The room rate bundled with breakfast and we paid extra to book dinner at the hotel, the food was good and with great portions, it was a family trip with 6 adults and 2 kids, I contacted the hotel to book a birthday cake in advance, the cake was delicious and it served during dinner time, we enjoyed a lovely night there for my mothers birthday and mothers day for 4 mothers! The Public spa is so quiet and comfortable, the lobby and foot spa were great too, all the facilities are excellent and the service is outstanding! We would love to stay one more night if our trip is allowed!!
