Stayed at the end of March and found it very comfortable! Excellent service! 1. There is a shuttle bus to the bus terminal. You can ask the information desk on the first floor to help make a call to the hotel. They will help us with our luggage when getting on and off the bus, which is very thoughtful! 2. The service of all staff is super good and very polite. Some staff members also speak good English.👍 3. The key point is that the room is super large and spacious, and it is also very clean. When checking in, they will also provide hot tea and free snacks. 4. The breakfast and dinner have a variety of dishes and are plentiful. We ate a lot~ They have their own private compartments and will make the bed while guests are dining. The Japanese-style bed is super comfortable and makes you want to sleep forever. The room has heating at night, so you won't wake up feeling cold. 5. The hotel has three large hot springs. The male and female hot springs will switch at midnight, so please pay attention to the etiquette when entering the hot springs and do not put towels in the bathtub to wash. Don't embarrass yourself. 6. The hotel is located on a hill, and you can walk to the attractions. When you come back, you need to climb the hill, so treat it as exercise. 7. I think the soundproofing is pretty good. The neighboring rooms were fully occupied, but I didn't hear much noise. 8. The only drawback is that the check-out time is too early (10:00). Going to Kusatsu may be far, but choosing to come here was an excellent choice. It's situated on a slight hill, so you can enjoy a cozy view of the neighborhood. If you go up to the top in the evening after dinner, you can see the red tower of the temple overlooking Yubatake, and if you go down the stairs, you can explore the village connected to Yubatake. Yubatake has a charming atmosphere, and although the smell of sulfur is not too strong, it's a great place to take a foot bath and relax. The hotel's location is also great. For dinner, Kaiseki offers a variety of healthy fish dishes, and each menu item is served one by one, making you feel very full. The room was spacious, and although there weren't many stars, the food was delicious. The hot springs are available in three different locations, and the outdoor bath doesn't have a view, but the hot spring water is amazing. If your budget allows, it's definitely worth a visit. You'll feel like you made an excellent choice.

If you arrive at the Kusatsu Bus Terminal before 1700, you can go to the tourist agency on the 1st floor to call the hotel and arrange for a car to pick you up and take you to the hot spring hotel, so you don't have to drag your luggage up a small slope. The hotel provides a delicious and plentiful breakfast and dinner. The hotel has three hot spring areas, both indoor and outdoor, with a quiet environment and not too many people. It's comfortable to soak in the hot springs in the morning and evening. After checking out at 1000, you can leave your luggage at the hotel and walk for 3-4 minutes to the hot spring street to take photos, eat and shop. Then have lunch and return to the hotel to pick up your luggage. The hotel will provide transportation to the bus terminal. Overall, the accommodation experience is very satisfying and worth recommending.

If you come to Kusatsu, skip all the public baths and just stay at Kusatsu Boun. This magnificent property has everything you need to really experience all that Kusatsu has to offer. I’ve been to many many ryokans in Japan including luxury properties and Kusatsu Boun’s hospitality and facilities were on par with the very best properties in Japan. This hotel is so famous it was featured in a documentary online on ryokans. We were incredibly happy with our stay here and can’t wait to come back again. The star of the show at Kusatsu Boun is their onsen. They have three separate huge baths each of which is split into indoor and outdoor baths. The baths here are more beautiful and exponentially cleaner than the public bathhouses in Kusatsu (we did the bathhouse pass). The water at Boun also felt more potent and clearer, drawing the wonderfully acidic waters from the Bandai and Sainokawara sources. The baths of Boun are the best baths I have ever experienced in Japan. Besides the baths, the entire building of Boun was beautifully and tastefully decorated. The property was laid out very well even though there were new additions and the whole building made sense. We stayed in the western room which was on the older side but spotlessly clean and there was a very powerful calming energy in that room that I seldom experienced before. Some folks describe this as good feng shui. The property is also designed to accommodate the elderly with rooms that are wheelchair friendly and elevators leading to some of the baths. We did not have breakfast here but dinner was excellent albeit a bit rushed but featured many local and distant ingredients that were very tasty. One of the highlights of our stay at Boun was meeting the elderly owner, the oo-okami-sama. We did not know she was the okami-sama as she was humbly putting guest shoes away and greeting people at the entrance. When I found out who she was, I finally understood why there was such peace in the building and it stemmed from her. The okami-san is the heart and soul of a ryokan, she sets the mood of the hotel; her will and her style of hospitality is what is sensed by the guests. I think the grace and peace of Boun came from her and all her years of hard work managing this hotel. It was such an honor to meet her. Once again, if you come to Kusatsu, stay at Boun. I have to warn you that because this property is so well known, they get booked very fast so I recommend booking this hotel several months in advance if you can. We absolutely cannot wait to come back to this ryokan to experience the potent hot springs of Kusatsu as well as the utmost in Japanese omotenashi.
