The room that we stayed in at Marrigold Hostel is very new so it was still well-maintained and clean. There is a private toilet. There's also water dispenser, fridge, and microwave in the common area. This in itself already made our stay fairly decent given the bad reviews for other hostels in Chungking Mansion. However, what makes our experience very unsatisfactory would be the staff service. For a group of 3 that stayed in the room for 7 days, not even once was our sheets changed nor the toilet cleaned. I've asked politely multiple times if they could provide some cleaning supplies for the toilet because I wanted to clean the toilet since it can get dirty with multiple people using it for a couple of days. Didn't bother to request for them to clean it themselves. just asked for cleaning equipments since I can do it myself and to not bother them anymore but my request wasn't catered. We also asked for 2 keycards, customary for any other hostels we stayed at it's always 2 but they only gave us one. I also requested if it's possible to ask another keycard so that if one of us needs to go out and buy something, the power in the room won't be disabled. Also would like to point out that the staff wasn't in anyway hospitable especially when we arrived. So much for Filipino hospitality. It was kind of frustrating because when we lined up for the elevator, only one of us plus her was able to go up to the floor. When the two of us was left behind with all our luggages, she just stared at us and remained unbothered. A good staff wouldn't leave behind their guests and would just wait for the elevator's next turn. We were still pretty understanding at this point but it was already an indicator of a red flag because in our 7 day stay, the only hospitality we got was for our trash being disposed. We had to put up with a dirty toilet bowl. We were pretty disappointed because our 2 other friends who stayed at a different hostel at the same time as us, got raved reviews with th

The hostel has no reception area where you can easily go to if you need assistance, in which you will reach them in another block and ride a different escalator to reach the place of the office. I will recommend this to backpackers but not for us who travelled with a senior citizen and a child since the place going upstairs is filled with not so good smell of smoke. The facility is newly renovated so it is good but considering this is a hostel we already know that the place is small, though it has not been cleaned everyday and the towels have not been changed. We had to reached out to the Filipina care taker who really cleaned the room after our request. The location is good since it is very near to the MTR of Tsim Tsa Tsui. I love how they are so organized with the elevator downstairs that going to Block A where our rooms are located on the 17th floor. I just hope that they changed the towels everyday but the filipina care taker is very accommodating.

We did have a good time staying at Marigold Hostel. The owner was really friendly, and the room was okay considering the price and the location - MTR and bus stops are nearby so we didn’t have any issue traveling plus there were a lot of food choices along the area. The room was a bit small, but if you’re only looking for a place to sleep and rest after a long tiring day exploring Hong Kong then I think it’s really great + the price is cheap - so, it’s a win-win after all. Cleanliness of the place: We stayed on the 15th floor, and Raj (staff) wasn’t making sure the floor is clean. The place was really smelly, my partner had a really hard time going in and out of the vicinity because of the smell. We’re not sure if he changed the bedding and the blanket prior to our arrival because it has a stinky smell as well 😔 Overall, I would suggest Marigold to those people who are not really that sensitive. We really had a great time there, but I’m really hoping that they evaluate all of their staff when it comes to cleanliness and making sure the guests feel safe all the time. I first stayed at Marrigold last year and had a good experience, thus, I stayed again this year. Its location is very accessible to malls; restaurants; moneychangers; tourist attractions (Avenue of Stars, Kowloon Bird Park, and others); souvenir shops; and MRT stations. Marrigold's rooms are very secure, and its main entrance has a security lock. Our room is spacious enough to accommodate two beds, which is high enough to keep 3-4 pieces of luggage under each bed. It also has an air conditioner, has sufficient water supply, and almost noise-proof. The staff are efficient, and you may request them to clean the room and replace the beddings. It is worthwhile to stay in Marrigold.
