Worst hotel experience I can remember”
my problems started at check-in when i was told that the room i had already booked and paid for was not available. i asked for my money back and magically the room was available. i unpacked and took a shower. when i turned the shower off it started making a loud, squealing type noise. it could easily be heard out in the hallway. i informed staff and left the room. i returned two hours later and the shower was not only still making the noise (but not quite as loud) but irate hotel guests in the next room were outside my room wondering what was going on. i turned the shower on and then off and the noise stopped.

best location”
this is the best location in Nongkhai.it is at the river side next to walking way along makhong river.you can lelax by walking along the river side looking at the oneway running water in makhong river.imagine this water will pass toward Laos, Camphochai,Vietnam and join the south Chaina sea. this hotel is very clean and we like the atmostphere of the wooden building very much.

Great location, clean rooms”
the stay was great. -- only comment is that the receipt provided by agoda does not give a phone number for the hotel. we had a hard time finding the hotel by just the address, it would have been helpful to have the phone number printed on the receipt as well.

Nice hotel by the river”
A comfortable hotel beside river with large dining area. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was good and service was great. Traditional wooden style throughout hotel. Goood internet access.

Pretty good stay”
This is a quaint old fashioned hotel with teakwood floors and fixtures. At the onset it seemed to have a certain charm that pretty much got used up because of all of the noise from the River walk and the nearby restaurants and hotels. However this was my only complaint with this hotel, the noise finally abated about 10 or 11 pm and it was very quiet.

Just short of a scam”
This hotel represents itself as a hotel and charges hotel rates. These set of rooms are clearly guesthouse status (and they have signs to indicate this). The room itself, is very small and dirty, air conditioning not in good working order (kept room on the warmer side), sink was leaking, closet was tied with a string to hold it closed, and generally the staff were unfriendly and not helpful with service or our complaints. For example, they did not have anyone to help with carrying our luggage to our room. Moreover, there is enough total parking for about five vehicles and some of these are used by staff. A day before, my wife and I paid the same rate in Khon Kaen (two hours west of Nong Khai) as Mekhong guesthouse, for a beautiful (real) 4 star hotel set in a large setting of coconut trees, friendly staff and nice clean hotel room. The only positive aspect of Mekhong guesthouse is that it is in a good location downtown and it is beside the best Vietnamese restaurant in town. These surroundings, however, would never be enough reason to stay in this filthy dishonest business. FYI, my wife and I have never complained before about a hotel. This experience warrants official and unofficial complaints and we plan to write about this guesthouse misrepresenting itself.

Only a guesthouse, hard to find as name had change”
Disappointed on arrival, very small room for 2 people. No proper shower recess. I would look elsewhere next time. Staff not helpful or very friendly, everything felt like it was a chore for them. Price was reasonable. Food was okay and beer was reasonably priced. Nice view from restaurant across the river to Laos.

Superb location.”
I'm guessing this older, largely wooden guest house is often overlooked, but we found it to be charming in a classic Thai sort of way. It's location on the river front is excellent and a short walk from excellent restaurants and the sprawling Indochine Market.

Worst hotel experience I can remember - cont.”
The staff were rude and unhelpful. At first they agreed to change my small, squadid room then two minutes later refused. In no way could the room be called "superior" as advertised. The bathroom was a dark, bare cell with tatty basin, mnirror and shower. There was no soap, no toilet paper (take your own), the towels were old, threadbare, discoloured by use. The promised free Wi-Fi didn't work (the staff didn't care less), the air con couldn't cope in the day so the the room was hot and sweaty; old spring mattresses seemed to sum up what the management thought of its guests. Mosquitoes were more than a nuisance. The word "riverside" is well exploited in Nong Kai; none less so at the Mekong Riverside. There were no rooms that we could see with a river view, so please beware of misrepresentation. it was an expensive bad experience.

Good Location with Wifi in the room. Good Air-conditioning. The room's wall is too thin so you can hear what the next room talking about. Room is quite aged paticularly toilet. Loads of mosquitoes.

very thin walls between rooms. We were kept awake for hours by an amorous young couple next door. Restaurant scruffy and staff lazy/grumpy. Looked good on the website but in reality not the best experience.

Great location but too hot in the afternoon sun”
I booked for 5 rooms for 2 nights. One of the room was too hot for comfort due to the afternoon sun. the other room, the door unable to lock. Due to this problem, I need to change the 2 rooms and pay extra $200 baht for each room per night.
