Did you find this review summary helpful?
I stayed in one of the mid-ranked rooms. This is a decent stay if you get a deal here or some other sale, but I would not pay full price. The facilities are nice, and the hotel is clean, but there just is a significant gap between this and true luxury ryokans which wouldve charged those original prices. The room itself is *awesome*. Newly renovated, private bath, decently spacious, rainfall-style shower booth, it's great. The service is good, but not perfect (for japanese standards), and the dinner and its service was also just good and didn't wow or surprise me in any way (again, for japanese ryokan standards), though being able to be dine in your private room (due to my room class) was very nice. Breakfast being a buffet instead of a sit-down affair, a recent change by the ryokan, is also not my preference but it might be yours! It was still good quality food. The towels in the room/public baths were also a little lower quality than I was expecting for the price. Room scenary is okay, but you knew that booking the hotel, and it is a lot better on the rooftop/higher up public baths. Nitpicks aside, I did enjoy my r and r time here and the staff took good care of me from start to finish, and am satisfied for what i got given what I paid, and its proximity to Kyoto city; not a lot of onsen ryokan options with convenient access in this part of the country. It's just, again, if I were paying full price, and got the same amount of service, i don't know.... 4/5 overall going by Western/non-Japanese rating standards.
Thank you very much for your staying with us. I'm glad you enjoyed the our hotel. Yumotokan
The accommodation is located away from the city center, and you must contact them using the mobile phone provided at the Ogoton Onsen station for the shuttle to come, so it might be a bit inconvenient if you are not fluent in Japanese or English. However, the room conditions, the hot springs, and the staff are all clean, spacious, and friendly enough to be satisfying! There is a fairly large convenience store right near the accommodation, making it easy to go get some late-night snacks! If you request at the counter, they will provide microwave products. Also, the rooftop open-air bath is really, really nice, so I hope you definitely get to try it!
Never been to a Ryokan Onsen before, so this a real delight. The staff were so incredibly friendly and nice. We reserved a room with a private onsen, which was great to jump into first thing in the morning. Every meal we had there felt like an event, with numerous tiny dishes, mostly fish, in all forms. My partner’s more conservative palette kept her from trying it all, but she did find the main filets very well cooked and enjoyed the meals. I loved the variety and effort the put into the small details of the food. We had one of the “western” breakfasts, which was also delicious, consisting of an omelette, box of small pastries, siphon-brewed coffee, tofu and vegetables, yogurt with fresh fruit, and a salad. We didn’t actually use the public onsens, but I did take a look at the rooftop one which was pretty magnificent. Also we had access to a special lounge that included a foot bath “river”, free beverages and free tiny Haagen-Dazs, due to us taking the more expensive room I believe. I was also able to snag a massage the same day in their spa. It was delightful and the masseuse was very skilled and understood me despite the language barrier between us. The area around the onsen didn’t seem to have much going for it. There’s a FamilyMart within walking distance. For our short stay we decided to just stick around the ryokan. Overall, I would definitely do it again, just the same. Recommended if you want to try a ryokan onsen and want something more affordable.
There's 4 free public onsen and a few private ones which require additional booking . All their bathrooms are well equipped with cleansers, moisturisors/lotion, shampoo, conditioner, brush, hair dryers etc. Unless you have some specific skincare routine, you can go to the onsens empty handed. Dinner and breakfast was superb as it includes full course Japanese meal. Staff was very attentive and helpful as well. They helped us contact the bus company as we do not speak Japanese. They have pickup shuttle service from/to the train station as well. Overall did not regret staying here despite the high price.

“Relaxing and delicious ”
Our stay was everything we were hoping for. The hot spring baths were relaxing, it was a little hot for the middle of summer. But getting in the open air hot springs late at night was very quiet and almost empty which was nice. There were many different hot springs to try, we only got around to trying a couple of them, but I would love to come back and try out the rest. The hotel was at a good location for taking day trips to other sightseeing spots, we were easily able to get to the Hieizen Sakamoto Cable Railway to go up the mountain to Enryakuji. The hotel had a morning shuttle that took us there directly. For the trip back it was an easy bus ride to the station and one stop away on the JR train. The hotel also had a shuttle service phone at the Ogoto Onsen station, so we were able to call the hotel and ask them to send the shuttle to pick us up, which only took about 5 minutes. We reserved the room with breakfast and dinner included. The meals were amazing and there was quite a bit of food. We left dinner completely stuffed with almost too much food to finish. Since we stayed for 2 nights they changed up the meal on the second night to give us a slightly different variety of foods. It was all delicious. The morning buffets were amazing as well. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Thank you very much for your staying with us. I'm glad you enjoyed it! We look forward to seeing you again. Yumotokan
