Loei Province hotels & places to stay

We had a great time at Chiangkhan River Mountain Resort. We are family with young kid. Even though we stayed only one night at this hotel, everything was impressive. To start with, we got free upgraded to the bigger room with more beautiful view of the river. The hotel staff was very nice, helpful and polite. That was one of the best points of the hotel. The room itself was huge and comfortable. We stayed at the four-bed villa with the access to the river. Everybody in our group had a great time staying there. The breakfast was great too. The staff was so polite and eager to serve us. The dining place was huge and clean. The food was good. We love everything about this hotel. We highly recommend it.

On arrival I had a little problem with my booking due to my own fault getting my dates confused ! The staff at the hotel were very helpful, they were extremely welcoming, lovely people. Our stay was great, breakfast was good with a choice of fresh fruits, fried eggs, omelettes, breads and porridge. The beds were very comfy, rooms had beautiful river views, I Iook forward to my stay again in the future, Chaing Khan is one of the most tranquil laid back Thai towns I have ever visited. Loei is wonderful for escaping to the countryside ;)

Phuphanam Resort is nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of the Phu Rua district in Thailand's northern province of Loei. It is about an hours drive from the Loei airport. There are about 75 rooms between the three low-rise buildings - the original stone and wooden structure and two later modern additions. The resort is situated on an expansive forested property, which also contains working orange tree orchards, a large orchid flower nursery, and some Thai farm animals. There is also a large bird aviary, which has some parrots, peacocks, and a pair of rare Great Hornbills. There is a large unheated pool, indoor and outdoor massage facilities, and a gym. These areas are clean and in good repair. The restaurant serves mainly Thai food, along with some basic western entrees. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The main activities in the area include visiting the national parks in the area, as well as touring some of the cultural villages of the hill people who populate the area. The Loei area has extensive flower and fruit cultivation and depending on the time of year, everything from strawberries to avocados to macadamia nuts may be available. One of Thailand's largest wineries, Chateau de Loei, is located nearby. I would describe the resort as a rustic country lodge, especially the main building, with its teekwood floors, stone walls, and wooden rafters. I would definitely recommend a room in this building. They are comfortable and spacious but don't expect allot of luxury as you're in the country. There are warm water showers for example, but not at the sinks. The main reason to stay here is to relax and catch up on some reading or take in the local nature hikes. There is free WiFi throughout.

This is my second time visit for Chiangkan within 2 months since I travelled for business in Loei, the hotel was nice, staff were friendly, the restaurant which provided breakfast was very delicious. The room was smaller than I thought (around 3x3 metres including bathroom), I would call this a hostel, not a hotel, 2 people seems to be too much and I feel a little bit uncomfortable. I had a great time there, but $110+ per night for low season, not really worth it. Recommendation for people traveling in low season, just go without prior reservations and walk through the road to find your best place. I do like this place, but not that much to say I'm coming back.

We stayed in this hostel on the second night of our trip in Chiangkhan. The location is great. We can see Mekong river clearly from our room. There are restaurants nearby so finding food is not an issue. Plus,the owner is also very kind. She let us checkout late due to our late flight in the afternoon. Comparing with other hotels we stayed, we like this one most. Highly recommend!!!

Everything was great; the location next to the river which you'll get up and face the foggy all around, give alms to monks, various food along the road, old style night market, the cool weather, precious time with the special ones. Fortunately that the receptionist named "Uan" gave me the room that was unexpected. Because I talked earlier on the phone with a man which assumed the owner, he promised to give me the biggest room. When I checked in, "Uan" took me to the best room. Then we went out for dinner and when we return, she said that another guest made booking for 2 days, so she decided to gave them the biggest room instead of us (we booked only 1 day). I felt sorry that promise could not be true. She changed us to another smaller room next to the best one immediately. We had to packed and moved again, that was sad.

As with most hotels on the river there, the rooms are very small. there is no place to hang clothes and no shelf space for personal items. Charging phones is difficult but not impossible. This room was a loft which helped. This pertains to almost all hotels on this strip. On the good side, if you love wood, this is a great place. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything is very clean. While limited in choice, the breakfast was delicious. The shower worked well (both a regular shower and a rain shower) and the water was hot. The view from the balcony was very nice and relaxing. And in the loft, you wake up looking at the river which was very nice. If you are going to Chiang Khan, I would highly recommend this place.

The guesthouse is towards the end of the walking street and backs on to the river. We had the ground floor room with french doors and a little seating area with a view over the river. We were able to sit out there once our baby had gone to bed. The staff was very helpful as I had booked for the wrong night and turned up a day early! They allowed us to take the room for that day and didn't charge us anything extra. Breakfast was included and consisted of a thai-style fried egg plate- where they cook up eggs and ham in a single serve dish- it was very tasty!

Although this hotel was relatively expensive compared with other hotels in Chiang Khan I wanted to stay somewhere not wooden because we were travelling with our 3 month old baby & I didn't want everybody being woken up in the middle of the night by him! The hotel is very clean, the room is very basic but adequate. We had breakfast & it's the first time I've ever enjoyed rice porridge!! I would probably stay here again.

I actually travelled with a friend and we found the staff (esp. El, Ying & Den) very nice, helpful & caring for their guests. The bed is so comfortable. The restaurant is not open for dinner but the staffs are very helpful and even suggested restaurants to dine with. And even before arrived, I asked for recommendations for places to visit around Loei and they gladly sent me a possible itinerary for a 4-day trip. They even provided us a guide/driver (with a very minimal charge) when we requested one on our trip to Chiang Khan. Overall, our stay in this resort is a very pleasant one & will surely recommend it to my friends.

Beautiful and Calm resort among nature. Easy to find by self drive with GPS. In the central part, flower garden is decorated. Next to the garden is a small lake where you are able to run or bike around. The separated restaurant building is the place where I tried dinner. The taste is impressive and price is reasonable. Breakfast set is plenty of quality and adequate for fulfill your stomach. Although guest service looks informal but staffs are so nice and I could feel caring in details. Hotel room has comfortable bed and full of amenities. Overall I'm very satisfied and wish to go back next time.

We're very happy about the size of the room, it was huge! and it was also very clean and full facilities. One little problem that occurred was the parking place for our car. We had to park our car at the other guesthouse which owned by the same owner and walked to this hotel, the walking distance was 1/4 of a mile but if you traveled there with a car then make you have available parking space because there were not many space there for parking. By the way, breakfast by the Mekong river in the morning was awesome!

Super Hotel,super Personal. Sauber,jeden Tag Top Zimmerreinigung,aircon sehr gut,konnte man super einstellen. Morgenessen super,gibt für jeden Geschmack etwas und wird auch abgewechselt. Sehr gepflegte Unterkunft,Palmen Blumen Swimmingpool. Werde diese Unterkunft weiterempfehlen und nächstes mal sofort wieder da buchen. War super,danke für die tolle Zeit im Au Place Loei

the resort is located just outside of dan sai in a beautiful valley. nice surprise to see grazing water buffalo in the morning. trip was in off-season so me and only one other group at the resort. service was very good but it helps if you can speak some thai as not all front desk staff were fluent in english. comment in a previous review about smell from bathroom; i noticed the same but not unbearable (open the bathroom window and close the door). just look outside and remember where you are before complaining too much. meals done very well; both breakfast and dinner. not many restaurant options in dan sai (or elsewhere). having a car is a must if you want to explore the province, but the hotel seemed to have ample options for tours (i chose to explore on my own).

the hotel is really nice decoration. We like that they still keep the traditional old wood house mix with a vintage style decoration. Nice staff as well. You can take a bike from the hotel for free cycling around the town or oven the Khong River side. I stayed in the room with shared bathroom but it's seem still nice n private anyway. I definate will comeback to stay in this hotel again.

Resort is just opne on Dec 2012 so condistion is very good. I got very good service from resort's owner. At mornig time, I got resort was covered by fog with bit cold. That is very fresh for me. This resort suit for customer that have private car only due to it far from walking street around 15 mins. This resort was located at the middle way to go to Phutok. For traveling that desire to stay 2 night at chiangkhan. I advise 1 night at this and 1 night in Chiangkhan city.
