Where to stay in Shiga Prefecture
Shiga Prefecture hotels & accommodations
I have been to Japan for more than 10times and lakeside more than3. This hotel is the top one in view, room specification, staff quality and CP ratio. Will definitely come again! They are the best representative of the Shiga prefecture!
The hotel is situated in a remote area at Otsu, Shiga Prefecture. Location wise, it is not so convenient. Although it provides shuttle bus service that goes between the hotel and Otsu station, the shuttle bus service ends at 9:00pm so you have to ride on taxi back to the hotel from Otsu station after that time. The environment is very nice, especially at morning, it is...
Get there by Local JR to Ogoto station was easy, they provide free complimentary shuttle so call them once you reach. We booked the private onsen as my Husband has a tattoo. No tattoos are allowed in the four public onsens. They have four public onsens, two of which the ryokan will specifically tell you how to tell which day one onsen is for male and one is for female ...
The ryokan is easy to access, around 20 min JR train and few mins shuttle bus journey. It is clean and spacious. Staff are friendly and helpful, providing excellent service. Both dinner and breakfast are delicious. I like the pear jelly so much! The lake view is very beautiful! I will definitely stay at this ryokan again next time when I go to Shiga prefecture.
This is the best hotel that i stay in japan. This hotel very close to the Minami Kusatsu JR station. After exit the train station the hotel is just in front of us less time for us to find our hotel even this hotel is 15 min journey from kyoto staion. We love this hotel as bathroom was very clean the bed was so comfy to sleep. But during our stay the wifi connection was...
It was really one of the best stays I have! This hotel standard is way above and the whole place looks neatly and nicely decorated. The beds were comfortable and clean. Staff were very polite and helpful. It is 20mins JR train ride away from the Kyoto city, but that is not a big problem. Still accessible to me. Will definitely choose this hotel again if I come to Kyoto...
I stay here after skiing in Biwako Valley, it's very good experience, they will pickup you in station after you call them. They also have shutle bus to station at certain time. Their food are good, traditional japan food, traditional japan room with affordable price. Just take notes, there is no lady to service you like in other ryokan. They have 2 onsen for free and b...
I intended to book the room type with open hot spring bath and therefore I choose to pay a higher price. But when I enter the room, I notice that it is a indoor bath inside a bathing room (though it is hot spring), the staff tell me the picture of the room type is not correct, and cannot swap another room to me. Disappointed !
This place is absolutely the best place to stay on Kyoto! Free shuttle to the nearest stations and back, extremely friendly service and if you get the banquets for dinner, you will be astonished as to how succulent, fresh and tasty!! My first time using an Onsen and has a bath inside and outside, as well as a private Onsen of the roof top! Amazing view from up there ov...
This actually is a love hotel. A bit old but it's a big room, big bed & clean! they provide everything you need (like shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, dryers, facial Staffs .............). The toilet also has steam sauna. Even it's a love hotel, u won't hear any noise from outside or from others room. So you don't have to worries about this. We were stayed this ...
Staff were pleasant and helpful, excellent location near to station, castle, plaza, supermarket. I would rate a 9 as a four star. The rooms could be improved with having safes to put passports and other valuables.
The hotel is a little far from JR station than I expected. It is near Nagahama Castle and Nagahama port. The public bath room is big, but there are too many users in the weekend evening. Our room has big windows, facing the fantastic lake.
Everything was fantastic about this place. The washroom was simply amazing, it had everything I needed. The only issue I had was that the capsule got a little warm and I had no means of making it cooler since air-conditioning was centralised. Receptionist kindly lowered the temperature for me but it was still quite warm. But overall, I couldn't ask for a better place t...
Ordinary from outside but this hotel satisfy me a lot. Big room, nice outdoor onsen, nice staffs and free car park. It is a bit remote from train station but it is very convenient for drivers. It is a 5 min walk to Biwa Ko lake and 10 min to a tiny castle
It was a hassle having to take the train to and from Kyoto Station daily (20 mins each time) to get to most tourist attractions. This would not have been my first choice if there had been rooms available in central Kyoto. But that said, Smile Hotel was value for money, room was clean and the staff made every effort to speak English. A few eateries and 2 convenience s...
We stayed here one night for a quick trip to shiga-ken and really enjoyed ourselves. However this hotel is probably closer to Kyoto than to many of the places in shiga and around lake biwa. The rooms are normal sized for Japan, and it came with the standard yukata type pjs and toiletries. There are a lot of decent restaurants near the hotel. We went to this old slightl...
During the peak season when the hotels in Kyoto are extremely expensive, this hotel that is 25 mins by Shinkansen away from Kyoto (no problem if using the Japan Rail Pass) remains reasonably price. Furthermore, it is just right next to the JR Maibara station, and is a very new facility (so almost everything is in perfect condition). Will stay here again when I go to Ja...
The Staff was the most friendly and helpful. We came to the Hotel Yes and got a smoking room even though we had specifically asked for a non-smoking one. We could not possibly stay at a smoking room because we would get really ill. Luckily the staff was really helpful and together we could get another hotel for the first night from a nearby village and the staff even ...
We enjoyed the hotel room and facilities very much. The attention to detail is impressive. The sense of space is excellent. I will recommend the hotel to all of my friends who would be visiting Moriyama area. The Sagawa museum was a real surprise, a fantastic architecture and a sophisticated show. The hotel should advertise itself in cooperation with the museum. Best o...
Great hotel with nice big rooms and very clean. Not much near the hotel so it would be best if you had a car. Right next to the massive lake but on the southern most tip so not many things to see near the hotel. Kyoto is about 30min away by car. All in all a great hotel.
This APA hotel is neat, clean, friendly and has wonderfully supportive staff. Unfortunately, public transportation in the place is very scarse. But if you are ready to pay for taxis or you come on your own car, everything is fine.
this hotel is not in kyoto prefecture but just outside - a 15-20 minute train journey on a local line which is very frequent. the rooms are of a normal japanese standard with a good desk space. many good restaurants within a two - five minute walk from hotel. this hotel is very good value so close to kyoto.
This hotel looks new, so everything is clean and tidy. No TV channels available though, only pay-per-view channels (pay via vending machines in hotel). I was shocked initially when the hotel staff told me that I only booked for a single bed room for a single occupant only when I book for a single bed double occupant room! I guess it Agoda made a glitch as I remember we...
This is my fourth time booking to this hotel, can't find any hotel better than hotel new omi to stay, because there is nothing can complaint. Love this hotel and highly recommend!
very near to Kyoto..good for backpackers who want to explore more of Kyoto..and there is a beautiful lake Biwako and mountains around..
15 minutes walk or 500 yen cab ride to front of Hikone Castle moat. Hikone is a quiet town and the castle sit high on the hill overlooking Lake Biwa and the surrounding city. The area where this hotel is a newly developed and has outlet store, couple other high-rise hotels and few restaurant to the east. We enjoyed Sushiro (rotating sushi). Winter is the season fam...
Although we were here for less than 12 hours, we really enjoyed our stay and are already planning our next visit! The staff were super friendly and accommodating from the beginning (speaking fluent English as well). The facilities were phenomenal, including an awesome outdoor bbq area, lively common room fully stocked with tea and food prep facilities, books everywhere...
This hotel is provided based on Japanese 'Love Hotel'. But It is confortable for me because they have good service for meal and video. There is train station nearby but no convenience store and restaurant around there. For Kyoto station, it takes about 30 minutes by train.
I intended a one night stopover on a cycling trip, but heavy rain meant I spent a second night. The first was a bit expensive (national holiday), the second was very cheap, so overall good value. Other reviews make it sound bad, but although it's not the most modern, that's not really a problem for me. It is well kept and very clean. The best bit is the size of the ro...
Otsu is a city near Kyoto, two JR stops from Kyoto station. Actually Otsu is a very nice small city, and it's comfortable to walk around. The room is clean and bigger than in the city, breakfast is included.
Cheap places to stay in Shiga Prefecture
I have two good days in this guesthouse. I met a man from Hokkaido and we stayed at the common room with the owners to sing and talk! The guest house is traditional and you can experience how typical Japanese lives! The room and the toilet are clean! The weather was very cold when I was in Hikone. The owners are very caring and they give me a warm water bag so that I...

It was a wonderful experience. Everybody was courteous, helpful and nice. Room and accommodation was great for the price but was actually more than I expected. Parking was cheap (around ¥900) and just across the building. It was discounted from the hotel. The breakfast ladies were awesome as well. They tended to us like they knew us. Price was cheap and discounted ...

Traditional Ryokan with friendly staff/owners. The food was good and our room was huge (3 rooms!). The hot spring bath was lockable for private use which was awesome.

The staff were helpful and went out of there way to find a room without smoke stench (despite our special request and looking in numerous non-smoking rooms) - having found one the rest went smoothly. Taxi to the fine original castle and garden we walked home past loads of souvenir and tourist shops to eventually come across spectacular sushi restaurant. (Not much Engli...
Stayed one night as enroute to Lake Biwa from Miyazu. Is in a small water town. Owner is friendly, speaks a bit of English and Chinese. Rooms do not have ensuite bathroom but is one the same level of rooms so is convenient. There is a hot bath at 1st floor. Free spring water for drinking. Breakfast and dinner was delicious. We stayed in late May which is offpeak so th...
This was a very good find for us. We wanted our kids to experience a Japanese style hotel and this worked out perfect. Mr. Fujisawa took a lot of time to explain the correct way to use the facilities and the Japanese customs. This was a very pleasant experience for us and was a highlight of our trip.
Price are very satisfy you have nothing to complain on this hotel, just the staff cannot speak in English and the room haven't curtain when sunrise you must need to weak up

The room was comfortable, the staff was friendly, the price was value for money, and the breakfast was good considering the low price (for Japan). But the hotel was located pretty far from the biggest attraction in Shiga, which is the Hikone castle. To get to the hotel, you had to take a train to Hikone, then grab a electric tram (which runs twice an hour) to a small s...

Room is clean though not very big space, enough for us doing lots of outdoor activities. Free bikes for us and the bike condition is excellent for medium distance. Biking along the Lake Biwa was an wonderful experience. Hikone Castle is walking distance as well as a beautiful spot to spend half day enjoying castle and Japanese garden.
The hotel is very near to Kusatsu Station (~20 min JR line from Kyoto Station). The place itself is very clean and comfortable.

Had a very wonderful stay in this hotel, staffs were helpful too though they can't speak English well. They will still try their very best to help out. Bathtub was also big enough for a person size. JR station entrance/exit was just on the basement level of the hotel..which was very convenient.

An interesting hotel on the top floors of a business park, walking distance from the train station (half an hour to Kyoto Station). This is a good value option when hotel prices in Kyoto are crazy expensive during Sakura season.

Booked 1 night stay at Ryotei Ryokan Yasui from Agoda. We were greeted by the staffs soon after arriving. Felt sooo homey and Japanese. Old ryokan but renovated nicely. Nice foods (our package inc halfboard), kind and polite staffs, nice public bath, clean room and closed to The Hikone Castle. We love it.. Strongly recommended!!!
this is the best ryokan I have stayed so far. the room has a BIG WOW effect especially the outdoor onset which overlooking Biwa lake. the decoration and setup is fantastic as well. the food is amazing. we have 2 breakfast and 2 dinner . they are creative and delicious ... i would definitely go there there again..
Me and my husband stayed there for 1 night to experience ryokan-style hotel and an onsen. The staff was the friendliest we had seen and the room was clean and comfortable. When I first doubted about sleeping on tatami-floor and not opting for a western-style bed then after the experience I can recommend it to everyone. Tatami-floor sleeping is comfortable, they make su...
A very traditional Japanese hotel. There was nothing that I could complain of, except that there was no lift service to transfer our heavy luggage from 2/F to 1/F.
