Traveler impressions of Chau Doc (An Giang)
I don't know that Chau Doc is on most travelers' itineraries -- indeed, we stayed there just because our travel arrangements to elsewhere required that we stay overnight.
But I'd recommend it for anyone that wants to see a "real" city where you will likely see only a very small handful of tourists and, instead, can get a feel for the real thing. Take some long walks and enjoy the non-touristed sights and sounds of the local life.
We stopped here for one night on the way down south. Nice little town with amazing market and active locals.
This is my second trip to chau doc and still haven't seen it all, that's why I think 3-4 nights would be good.
There are a lot of temples etc to see as well as other sights, floating market etc. food is great and the market is definitely worth a look.
We stayed in Chau Doc, for one night, as an overnight stop before heading up the Mekong Delta River on the Blue Cruiser speed boat.
The town was celebrating Christmas Eve when we stayed. The streets were blocked off to traffic, and all the locals were visiting the local church, there were loads of decorations and music pumping through the streets. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming with nearly every second person greeting us with hello. It was a great night.
It is a quiet place people are friendly there isnt alot to do here but it is still a nice spot to visit
nice town! and very friendly people. not much to see but has a local market that is worthwhile visiting.
walking around everywhere on foot is recommended
We came to Chau Doc to visit Sam mountain and a Big Buddism sculpture. We also enjoy local food in city center and fruit in particular.
A colourful town. Do a river trip to see the floating markets, fish farms and villages and the Cham village.
Make sur you visit Sam Mt. Eat at the local restaurants near hotel, or splurge at the Victoria hotel restaurant
I took a Tuk Tuk for the day at a cost of $15 and was pleasantly surprised at the wealth of places to see in the outlying area - A bamboo train ride a winery a couple of Temples and The Killing Cave of the Khmer Rouge as well as the flight of the bats at 5 pm - Ask at reception for a driver called Thony you will not be disappointed - If you like wine don't expect too much
Not real busy with tourists yet but well worth the visit for a view of life on the river and beyond.
