Great hot spring hotel, would love to stay again next time!”
Located in a small alley very close to the Yubatake, the location is quiet and you can walk to the busiest area. Unfortunately, the road is narrow and there is no parking lot, but you can park at the Yubatake tourist parking lot and walk to Nara-ya; or park your car at a farther public parking lot, there may be shuttle buses to transport passengers back and forth (check the official website). The one-night-two-meal plan is great, the hot springs are great, and the comfort of the room is the most comfortable sleep I have had on this trip (possibly partly due to soaking in the hot springs). The service staff are very friendly and not indifferent because they are foreign guests. Although the accommodation price is high, it is very worthwhile. Next time I come to Kusatsu, I will choose to stay and eat here first!
"We stayed with our family and had a great time!"”
The staff, the food, and the room were all great. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the bath was at a perfect temperature and allowed for a relaxing soak. The private bath was separated from the waiting room, which made for a peaceful experience. The cafe on the premises was also excellent, with great coffee and desserts that were both creative and delicious. The location was convenient, and the fact that the bath was open 24 hours was much appreciated. Thanks to all involved for a wonderful time!
Highly recommended :)”
They came to pick us up right away when we parked our car and called them :) The location was great, and all the staff were very kind and helpful. The hot springs were also very good, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. I was surprised by the amount of food, which was more than I expected :) I want to go back again :)
excellent service and food ”
this is my second time staying at Naraya, and I'm glad to report that the service and food are excellent as always. The service staff are very attentive and helpful in a genuine way which didn't make us feel self conscious - something I appreciated considering we arrived in non glamorous hiking gear and clothing. the room was clean and well furnished, and we enjoyed the onsen and location next to the yubatake area very much. the main highlight for me, similar to my previous visit, was the food. Impeccably thought out, themed to the season, and beautifully plated. The attendants also made it a point to explain the design, ingredients, and way of eating in japanese and English for some of our party. this was a nice touch since most ryokans only serve meals with minimal explanations if you don't speak japanese. Definitely this heightened our enjoyment of the meal, and by far it was the best set of Ryokan meals on our trip. Special shout-out to the excellent croissants served with sweat bean butter for breakfast. I could eat that for days! definitely will try and come back again if I get a chance to visit kusatsu!
Exceptional Traditional Japanese Inn (Ryokan)”
I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Naraya. The staff are very friendly and helpful, they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The diner meal was one of the best meals I had in Japan, course after course, 90 minutes of great food! The shared baths are clean and relaxing. Naraya I located central to the town, a 10m walk (maximum) to everything! The rooms are comfortable and roomy. My single gripe would be that the 'western' room bed was slightly more firm than I like. Otherwise a wonderful place to stay!
