Easy access from Tokyo by train. Highlands with rivers, waterfalls, lakes, hiking, trees, flowers. Also world heritage temples.
Very beautiful natural surroundings and temples to visit, easily accessible and tourist friendly. However restaurants closes early, dinner options are either hotel food or less than great hole in the wall places that remains open late.
Nikko is one of the my best impressions in Japan. Nikko is very beautiful place with incredible various nature and historical atmosphere.
I enjoy Nikko national park and beautiful small town with many Onsen. Temple and Palace are great and stunning.
Should visit here once in a life time. I'm very impress with nature and the historical places here. It was stunning!

If you are considering Japan and want an experience away from the crush & over populated cities go to Nikko.
People at Nikko is very nice, I arrived there around 7 PM. and I couldn't see any bus there, It's my lucky that I ask for the way to the hotel with local people, they had trying to find the hotel and finally they take me to the hotel by their car, I love Japan so much, I promise I will back to the Tochigi again.
Friendly little mountain town with a wonderful World Heritage site. I have travelled around Asia for a long time but this place took my breath away.
Nikko / Kinugawa regions have beautiful mountain secenery, historical temples/shrines and great onsens.
By the time you arrive at Nikko Station, you had better ask for the timetable for bus and map of Nikko.
If you like snowing place please come to Nikko you will find snow all around. Temperature is very cold where is good for the one who like cold place or escape from hot city.
