Communal onsen hot spring bath facilities are located at 4th level (separate facilities for men and women). This hotel provides great traditional Japanese buffet breakfast and dinner for half-board visitors. Most of the food are sourced from fresh local produce. The spring egg and the Japanese rice from Tochigi Prefecture are a must try. Overall, this is great place for those looking for a zen retreat. However, they charged the meals separatedly for my 2 daughters even though both of them are below 4 years. Hotel staffs speak very little English.

Really appreciate the level of service that Matsuya hotel provides. As we did not have a dinner reservation, they recommended and drove us to a local dinner shop nearby. Even though they tried to communicate with us with some limited English, their level of service is phenomenal and we will definitely return to Matsuya again. I'm a frequent hotel guest and stay in 5 star hotels often and I can say that this is one of the best, if not the best hotel I have stayed in. There is no gym, pool, bar or facilities that qualify it for 5 star status but the stay experience was so good that its 5 star in my book. Dinner was a lavish affair in the private dining room. Seasonal produce and fresh fish, great meal. After dinner, the room attendant came in the lay our futons on the tatami and we retired for the night soon after. Very relaxing and highly recommended for couples.

Absolutely love this place. Situated near the middle of an alleyway next to the National Park Office, this place offers the Japanese ryokan feeling. The manager is very polite and speaks good English. The Japanese food is excellent and exquisite and nicely presented in very traditional china. While you are having your dinner, the ladies should have made your bed on the tatami in your room. Don't forget to make yourself a cup of green tea with the tea set on the table before you go to bed. The taste is unforgettable. The onsen is not very big, but has an indoor and outdoor pool plus an sauna. The outdoor pool is the gem. Your face is freezing and you could listen to the river flowing past and yet your body is warm. Amazing experience. This place is not that far from Nikko Toshugu. It is within walking distance, roughly 15-20 minutes or you could take the often crowded bus. The Shrine is near LAWSON and Tochigi Bank. The path leading to the Shrine is stunning. This sight is popular with Japanese school children and elderly groups and foreign tour groups. The only drawback that we can think of is the transport to/ from the JR Nikko or Tobu Nikko Station. The bus stop is No 11. The bus service is over at around 6pm. It costs around 310 yen one way, so if u will be doing a return, It's worth to buy a day pass which is only 500 yen from the station. Remember to take a photo of the bus timetable. The bus is not very frequent. Pls take note that the bus DOES NOT have any space for luggage. A problem arises when too many tourists arrived at the same time with many suitcases. Good luck!

The room was great, the view was awesome, The Onsen was clean and relaxing and the staff was exceptionally wonderful and attentive to our needs. As such I would recommend a 2 nights stay at the ryokan for those city dwellers who want to experience a complete winding down experience. there isn’t much around the vicinity of the ryokan, however this can be a plus for those who want a very peaceful environment. The ryokan interior is awesome, very traditional, it gives off a sense of travelling back in time to the era of samurai. The food is excellent, though it’s not of the highest Kaiseki quality, and there’s more food for 1 person to consume, by the end of the course dinner pretty much everyone in our group felt very full. The buffet breakfast is excellent too in terms of spread and food quality. Take note that all food served at the ryokan were traditional Japanese food. The private onsen (to be reserved in advance, 45 minutes per session) was superb as well, mainly becoz of the river view, there are 3 private onsen that guests are allowed to choose from. To be honest, we booked this ryokan becoz we were captivated by the photos of the onsen overlooking the river. Our room was beautiful, and there’s a massage chair in it which were a surprise to all of us. The staffs will lay out the futons while guests were having dinner, and the next morning while the guests were having breakfast the futons will be stored neatly by the staffs back into the closet , they gave out some sort of ninja vibe due to the way the discreet manner they function in laying out and storing the futons. I stayed at a room just above the entrance, hence noise passes through to the room when car arrived at the entrance but was fine for us as somehow the volume was kept low (the Japanese way):) Very nice stay.

When we walk towards the Ryokan with our luggages, the staff literally ran out to welcome us and help us bring our luggages all the way into our room. As we are foreigners, they even have a Chinese speaking staff to handle our check-in and explain the facilities to us. The host will welcome us and make green tea to us which was awesome. The private bath was spacious and we enjoyed the privacy. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and have a lot of veriaty. The next day was my birthday and the host notice it and bring me a big bowl with sake, according to them this was how Japanese celebrate their birthday. The host even give us souvenirs and a birthday present during checkout. I would say I have never been treated so well and would recommend to anyone who plan to go to Japan. Awesome stay!

I booked for 2 rooms with 4 people and a child but at the last minutes 2 people and a child were cancelled. They let us cancel their reservation to the rooms and dinner/breakfast prices with agoda so that I can get some of it back. ...The staff were brilliant! They are so sweet! I booked the place because it was near an onsen my mom and I wanted to try! It turned out to be better than we had imagined! The room was a traditional Japanese style room with a dining area and a private bathroom. The ryokan has its own onsen but we opted for the sulfur based one just a 5 min drive away from the facility. Dinner was plentiful, tasty, interesting and healthy! They use meat and vegetables grown locally so everything tasted fresh ! My mom and I loved the place and would return again!

We took the train from nikko to the stop before kinugawa onsen and then walked.l the 17 minutes to the ryokan. The staff were incredibly nice and got us checked in immediately. We booked the room with the bath on the balcony and it was amazing. We went to the nearby convenience store for some sake and enjoyed the bath while listening to the river. The staff were incredibly nice and got us checked in immediately. We booked the room with the bath on the balcony and it was amazing. We went to the nearby convenience store for some sake and enjoyed the bath while listening to the river. The water was almost scalding which made it a bit hard to enjoy fully but it was still a treat and necessary since my girlfriend has tattoos which prohibits her from most public onsen. Once we bathed we changed into our yukata with the help of the older lady. She also serves us our hikari which was amazing. She was so sweet and honestly the reason this place deserves all 5 stars. She helped show us how to do everything and was very kind. While sleeping on the ground ryokan style isn't really for me, if I'm ever back in the region I'll definitely stay again.

There's a small beautiful stream just 10 min walk from the ryokan. The food is amazing too. And the best thing is the beautiful onsen! There are 2 female only onsen (1 indoor and 1 outdoor) and the rest are konyaku style onsen. For ladies who prefer females only onsen, the ryokan restrict access to all the onsens to female only from 8.30 to 9.30 pm. Although the ryokan is full, somehow everytime I get to onsen there's no one around at all and I get to enjoy the onsen all by myself. Consider going during dinner / breakfast timing.

Being Golden Week in Japan, most of the hotels I stayed in were more expensive than their worth, however, Hotel Famitic Nikko was a real bargain. The facilities were very clean, and the amenities were ample. The hotel is a very short walk to the Tobu Nikko Station which was very convenient, not because I rode the train, but because a lot of stores and things are centered around it. It was also a short walk to Nikko Toshogu. All-in-all, Hotel Famitic was the best hotel I stayed at on my trip. It was the cleanest, most accommodating, and the best overall value for my money.
