The ryokan locates near the upper end of the onsen street if you treat the bus stop of zao onsen station as the starting point. I think we have walked for like 6 to 8 min to get there. The room for us is big, with separate toilet and washing basin onside the room, which we don't expecte before There is some mould smells but it is still fine. Inside the ryokan, there is a nice onsen bath inside which opens for 24 hours. The onsen water is very great in quality and i love it very much, though the bath is rather small and the 2 of the showers didn't work properly. We have chosen a traditional yamagata style for the dinner and a traditional japanese style breakfast, which can be added by email order. the staff is very helpful during our communication and one of them is very good in english too. there are 3 more onsens in zao onsen street, one of them is just right next to the ryokan. This ryokan worths for its money and i will recommend people to stay there for visiting Zao area

The place is beautiful and our room was both large and comfortable. The onsen is huge and lovely. Service is tops, from free train station transfers to handing us umbrellas for the rainy evening and storing our luggage while we toured Yamadera after we checked out. The onsen is huge and lovely. Service is tops, from free train station transfers to handing us umbrellas for the rainy evening and storing our luggage while we toured Yamadera after we checked out. I wanted to do a special call out to Miki, their English-speaking staff member, who helped us get hold of a guide to Yamadera and recommended an awesome restaurant we could go to for dinner. Because it was raining that evening she even went out of her way to drive us to the restaurant. That was really incredible service. Would definitely recommend this hotel to anybody traveling to Tendo.

The place is located about a 10 min walk to the nearest ski lift, has two hot springs that were excellent after a day of skiing. The dinner was exceptional, with fresh meats, sashimi, soups, veggies. There are a couple of massage chairs in the lounge, that were utilized by me a lot. Lovely relaxing, peaceful, self-contained ryokan perfect for getting away from it all. The breakfasts and dinners were magnificent (Japanese style). The staff were attentive & helpful (suggesting the nearby river cruise as a morning activity). We were picked up & dropped off at the train station & driven to the starting point for the river cruise. We were plenty warm enough despite the sudden cool spring change that blew in. We love getting off the beaten path when travelling. This was a great choice for us & rejuvenates our energies for the rest of our trip.

This ryokan has its price, but it‘s definitely worth it! The location is great, at the outskirts of peaceful Kaminoyams, close to mountains, woods and Onsen, with a really nice public bath and great, comfortable Japanese-style rooms! The staff is incredibly helpful in any situation or troubles, and heartwarmingly welcoming, and the traditional Japanese breakfast is als...This ryokan has its price, but it‘s definitely worth it! I booked Tsuruya Ryokan for my parents-in-law(60's couple) who from the overseas to visit my home town. To be honest I was worried about if they could feel comfortable for few nights, however they absolutely loved there and had a wonderful experience. To be honest I was worried about if they could feel comfortable for few nights, however they absolutely loved there and had a wonderful experience. Especially they were really happy to sleep on the western style low bed instead Futon bed on the floor, which made the elder couples body relaxed. Actually another traditional hotels did not have an option of the bedroom so I think this bedroom is a really nice advantage for Tsuruya. Moreover, this traditional hotel had an amazing customer service as Japanese style but very flexible to the foreigner guests all the time indeed. I already knew that this hotel has a very high reputation within my local area people, but I evidentially know they give a great atmosphere and hospitality to all of us, even international people. I super recommend there!

Since it was raining (very lightly actually) on the morning of my departure, they insisted on driving me the 2 blocks to the bus station. So nice.
