Ueno hotels & places to stay

We stayed at MIMARU TOKYO UENO INARICHO for four nights because of its good reviews, and boy! It did not disappoint us at all. The staff was helpful and polite. More importantly, they speak fluent English, so you don't need to worry about not speaking Japanese. The location of the hotel is perfect for traveling around Tokyo, especially if you arrive at Narita international airport. It only takes 40 minutes from Narita to Ueno by the Keisei Skyliner. Additionally, it is a 10-minute walk from JR Ueno station, a 5-minute walk from Inaricho station, which is only two stops away from Asakusa. The room is spotlessly clean and roomy for Tokyo standards. A 24-hour supermarket by the corner is a huge plus because we made our breakfast and dinners as we got tired of having street foods every day. We enjoyed the stay at this hotel and will definitely come back again next time.

I thought Nippori is like a province in Japan far from the business districts and tourist spots in Japan. Apa Hotel TKP Nippori is 5 mins walking distance from the Nippori Station and has direct access train going to Narita and the semi bullet train they call the Keisei Skyliner. If u want to experience a traditional Japanese place this is the right venue, quiet place and has a cold weather. Accessible to Shinjuku et. al (JR Yamanote Line), if going to Disney it would take 45mins travel via train with one transfer to JR Keiyo Line. Apa Hotel has a lot of food to offer esp the ramen all beside the hotel. if u want Yoshinoya u can walk 10mins going to Nishi Nippori station. I do not regret staying here, they are close to Tokyo Skytree, Sensoji Temple, The Akihabara, Asakusa. You can use the bus as transpo if you are going to Skytree and Sensoji Temple. Yanaka Ginza is also in Nippori where history of cats originated next station to Ueno Station. Ueno is like a chain of discount shop and has the high exchange rate for dollar currency to JPY. APA HOTEL offers amenities like their wifi (strong connection) Shisheido shampoo and a bathtub although the room is small like hotel rooms in Hongkong but this is more and much commended to stay compare to the hotels in HK. When I go back to Japan i will stay here again.

Pro: Sardonyx Ueno Hotel is accessible location near the Ueno Station either JR and the metro train. It is, especially, closed by the Ameyoko market; only few steps to walk then you can enjoy shopping life there every night. Hotel’s staffs are supportive. If you arrived by the morning flight, don’t worry any longer!! Staying here, you could leave your luggage then follow to your plan right away. Moreover, if booked in advance, the room price would be very reasonable inclusive of breakfast. The room is new and clean. Con: Breakfast is quite basic only hotdog, pancake and bread for your selection. It’d rather than the appetizer than breakfast. The room is quite narrow; 2 big luggages are containable but a little uncomfortable.

I would definitely recommend the APA Hotel Keisei Ueno-Ekimae to any traveler and I would stay there again. My single, non-smoking room was very small. However, it will not deter me from staying there again. The location is great! It is very convenient to travel to and from the Narita Airport via the Keisei Skyliner, The hotel was literally starring me in the face when I exited the back entrance of the Keisei Ueno station upon my arrival. This was excellent as I arrived at the hotel at night. Also, the JR station, with access to the Yamanote and other subway lines was extremely close, about a 3- 5 minute walk. It took no time (about 10- 15 minutes) to get to other areas of Tokyo for more sightseeing and fun. The Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, many museums, shops, and restaurants are "right there." My room was clean and the bed felt good and soft (as I like it). The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, answered all of my questions, and were always smiling. The buffet breakfast and the meals at the restaurant that is attached to the hotel on the first floor is good as well.

Love staying in Ueno when visiting Tokyo. This is a new hotel so thought I'd try it. It did not disappoint at all! The hotel is just a few mins' walk from the Keisei station. Great location for food and shopping and all the subway stations nearby. It was so easy getting around. Hotel check in was a breeze. Took about 1 min. The optional breakfast is provided by the well-known cafe/restaurant Pronto located on the ground floor. Didn't try but it looked pretty good. Room was lovely and reasonably sized for Tokyo. Everything looked sleek and high-tech and clean. Staff were polite and helpful. Free wi-fi was good. Overall, of the 5-6 hotels I've tried, this is the best hotel in this price-range in Ueno.

The white facade Centurion Hotel Ueno ( much newer ) where we are checked in is a small boutique-y , modern feel Hotel in Ueno. I like our room. It has a sofa bed and a bunk bed, the space is small for 3 people but manageable. Cozy interior and a good size toilet. Wifi available. Staff were polite and friendly. When we checked in, we went to the other Centurion Hotel just across the hotel property ( red facade ) since there were no staff in the lobby of the White facade Centurion Hotel. There is a Family Mart adjacent to both hotels, a big supermarket, restaurants abounds. Walked 300 meters and Matsusakaya Department store is there. Overall : a good, well kept, and budget friendly Hotel Nearest Train Station : JR Okachimachi Station. take North Exit, cross the big Road ( Chuo Dori ) if I am not mistaken, walk another 300 meters and both Ueno Hotel is on your right side.

There are more than 3 centurion hotel in Ueno. This one locates near JR Ueno, 3mins walk. They don’t provide next day luggage storage only before 6pm but you may find coinlocker in JR Ueno (Asakusa side), rimowa27” and rimowa sport are ok with the size(¥600/¥800 per day) There is bunk bed in Casual double room, up one is single bed and the down one is double room. The room is not big but still fine, as for bathroom, it’s kind of small.

This Japan only chain was very close to Ueno train station. Coming from Narita it is an easy walk to hotel. They include an iphone for use during your stay for free. It includes internet access and free calls within JP and to USA. This is a big added plus. Hotel has wired and wireless access. Property is 1 year old so everything new. Includes free coffee anytime and a pastry breakfast. Many places to eat nearby and all staff spoke good english. TV included a browser like interface where you can search yahoo and view Youtube. Ueno is very close to Tokyo station so access throughout Tokyo good. I used a gym around the corner (infinity gym) which has 24 hr access Cant beat the value form business.

Ueno Hotel is really good! It was my first time to travel with my husband alone, and my first time to book a hotel. I was very impressed by Ueno Hotel! We can eat at the lobby full of tables and chairs, free flowing coffee, tea and water! there's even a microwave to heat your convenience store food!!! <3 And everyone in the hotel was super nice. 10/10 would go back! <3

There are alot of small restos around and just 12 mins. walk the ueno park adn zoo is already there. ameyoko also is near ueno park. good food. different varieties. Gkyukatsu motomura resto in ameyoko is a must try resto. small resto though but superb meat!!! I will surely go back to JAPAN and try some other mimaru tokyo hotel branches! the people are so nice and respectful. i love their culture and they all have discipline. and for those travelers who loves signature stuff,you should go to GINZA SIX in ginza. and right outside the mall is the largest 12 storey UNIQLO store. spent 4 hrs just browsing stuff to buy. over all I LOVE JAPAN. special mention to DIYA,NOW & ASUKA of mimaru tokyo ueno north for being so accommodating from our arrival to our departure. hugs and kisses!

Sakura Hotel was fantastic. Close to Sendagi station & nishi-nippori station (both within about 5 mins walk), easy walking distance to Ueno. The accommodation was fantastic, modest & simple Japanese style rooms, bathrooms are clean & all staff are very courteous, friendly & helpful. The neighbourhood has a bunch of little bars/eateries/cafes & stores, but is very quiet. All round 10/10, would recommend to anyone & everyone.

We chose this hotel because it's near the Ueno Station (8 min. walk) and Keisei Line/Sky Liner (12 min. walk) and the price was reasonable in spite of the date when we booked it. We had a smooth and fast transactions when we checked-in and checked-out. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. There's no time that we didn't see them not smiling. Our room is always clean and they really won't disturbed you until you remove or they didn't see the "do not disturb" sign on your door. There are convenient stores and vendo machines near the hotel. There's also a vendo machine, ice rack and microwave available in hotel's lobby and an iron board on each floor, near the elevator. The only thing the negative that I can say or think of is the size of the room. It's a small room (but I guess that's a normal in a Japanese hotels) so if you have big luggage, you'll have a problem with the space. But over-all, my friends and I had a great stay at APA Hotel Ueno-Ekimae. :)

I definitely feel that I chose a great hotel for the following reasons: 1) This hotel is brand new, opened early in 2015, which meant that everything is new and clean. This hotel was the CLEANEST hotel I've ever been in all my travels. The bathroom was so clean, I did not see a speak of mildew! 2) Great location! I loved that this hotel was right near Ameyokocho shopping streets. I loved walking around the localized small shop areas and there were many restaurants in the area. 3) Proximity to trains and airport train (Skyliner to Narita). There were two JR stations and two Metro stations within walking distance of this hotel. And a big factor for me is proximity to the airport train - which was the Skyliner at Keisei Ueno station (not Narita Eepress which is accessible via Toyko Station). Most tourists know about the Narita Express but not the Skyliner train to Narita. Skyliner is much less crowded and slightly cheaper and is accessed in Ueno. 4) I took advantage of the public bath. The bath soak was comfortable and much needed after a long day of exploring. I did not take advantage of the free ramen noodles they serve at night because I was out all day and came back to the hotel after 11pm. But these two amenities/services were great bonuses. Overall, I was very happy with Dormy Inn at Ueno Okachimachi. The staff was helpful, the front desk spoke English well enough. They also spoke Mandarin. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel for a few hours after checking out to explore. Room size was good for a solo traveler. I was expecting super tiny rooms, but the room I had was just right. There are many Pros, but one con is that they only have one elevator and it might take awhile at peak times, but this shouldn't be a deal breaker.

I stayed here for 5 days as it is convenient to go to Ueno or Tokyo for shinkansen. The town of Ueno-Okachimachi is great for shopping both for fresh food (sashimi) and cheap cuisine and fashion. The hotel is a little bit behind the market zone so it is quiet at night. Hotel is clean inside and outside the room. Laundry service is available by 200 yen totally. The light in the room is yellow so it is not good for working inside at night. Staff is nice. Breakfast is not memorable and space to eat seems not enough during the crowded time (7 a.m.). The start time is 6:30 so I missed 2 breakfast 'cos I have to move in early morning. Comparing to cheap food outside, I'd better book without breakfast and eat outside.

In Ueno, there aren't many decent star rated hotels, this is one of the rare few. From Keisei skyline station (assuming you arrive at Narita airport), it's only a 10 minute walk, or a very short taxi ride (no more than 600 yen, or less). Hotel has room at decent size (for Japan), very clean, very helpful staffs at check in. Bed is comfortable with great pillow, room temperature can be adjusted by yourself. So it won't be to warm in winter like some other hotels in Japan with central air conditioning. Best thing is the location. Being in Ueno, you are in a very interesting part of Tokyo, with lots of choices for good food and some of the best bargain shopping in Tokyo. The nearby Ueno park is a great destination in itself for a full day of exploring, cheery blossom viewing, zoo with panda, art gallery, opera house, museums, several different temples to to boost. Ueno JR station is a great hub to explore the rest of Tokyo, metro train to nearby Akakusa. JR train to Tokyo for the bullet train etc. Going to and from the airport could not be easier, a straight 38 minute train ride only! Mistui garden is truly an ideal place to stay when in Tokyo for many reasons.

Hotel is perfect for a family of four - 4 comfy beds, kitchenette complete with all the accessories you would need to prepare light meals. Room is spotless and sanitary. The tub in the shower is amazing ang perfect for a soak after a tiring day of exploring the city! The staff has been very helpful from booking and assisting in early check in! Special mention to Bella at the front desk. Location is close to all restaurants, convenience stores and a 24hr grocery store. Very close to Ueno JR, Tokyo Metro and Skyliner and Ameyoko shopiing and eating destination! If you want a location that is quiet and away from the crowd this is the perfect location. Our stay in Mimaru will be remembered and we will definitely come back when we visit Tokyo again.

I would highly recommend this hotel especially if you are visiting Tokyo for the first time. As most first time travelers will want to visit Asakusa, Ueno Park and Ameyoko. There is a local bus 08 that will brings you close vicinity of the Asakusa Shrine as well as the Tokyo Skytree. And also passing by the Juzaisan Chokoku-ji when the Tori no Ichi festival was held. At the station just 3 mins away, there are Keisei Skyliner to/from Narita abd JR Yamanote line also. Really easy to get around major areas in Tokyo. Cleanliness - other than minor mildew in bathroom the rest of the room space are kept clean. So for the price you paid, there is nothing much to complain about. Walls are thin that you can hear snoring from another room but most local hotels across Japan are the same. Or just book a deluxe 5stars hotel and of course at a very different price point.

My first time booking a hotel in Tokyo and it was beyond my expectations - Hotel Parkside Tokyo in Ueno. The hotel is about 5 mins walk away from Ueno station and right in front of Ueno Park and still witness some Sakura flowers. We arrived a bit early and the checkin time is around 2 PM so we have to leave our luggages and we can do early checkin and just pay later and get the keys. The staff are very proper, friendly and courteous. Around the hotel you have many food options and restaurants to eat. Vending machines are also located in and around the hotel. Upon checkin our room is standard room and still got enough space for us to move. The room is complete of amenities, toiletries and replenished everyday. It has air-conditioning and heater. The double bed and blanket are very comfortable. The tub is huge. The view is Ueno skyline which is spectacular at night. The internet is fast. TV channels are mostly local. Overall, very happy and I will definitely book this one again. :=)

I stay in female room only and it was great. Nice garden, many facilities, hot stone for footh, face steamer, microwave, massage chair. Eventhough no sauna or onsen, but many toilet and bathroom. Spacious, quiet, clean, cooperative neighbour, good price, close to keisei train if you want to take early train to narita airport. I have tried three hotels in ueno and this one is the best. Highly recommend

We only stayed for 1 night, The hotel with perfect location in quiet area, only few mins walk to all restaurants and shops in Ueno. Reception is nice, with every amenities. The room looks newly renovated and especially the bathroom is very clean. The bedding and pillow is so comfortable (not too soft). LAWSON/FamilyMart is just downstairs opposite.Good price comparing with other hotels in Ueno. Will stay again!

The reason for us booking this hostel was to have that capsule hotel experience and I'm glad we picked this hotel to experience it. They provide you with all the toiletries essentials so you don't really need to carry anything. The location is great, just 5 mins walks from the Ueno station and literally next to the Ueno park. Our room looked out to Ueno park and we were very thrilled about that as it was a great view. The staff are friendly and welcoming and while we were there it was raining heavily so they provided us with free umbrella to use during our stay. Negatives would be that the locker provided is very small. Enough to fit your shoes (which they provide a tray for) and a normal size backpack, however it's very safe so everyone leaves their luggage out in the room. As well as this if you are looking to meet other travelers and mingle then this propbably won't work for you as the only common room is the kitchen and many people keep to them selves. Overall I'm very satisfied

From Narita airport, all you have to do is board the Keisei Skyliner Train bound for Keisei-Ueno station. As soon as you exit ticket gate (there's only one ticket gate) from the train of Keisei-Ueno, there are two terminal exits: the Ikenohata and the Main. On your right is the Ikenohata Exit and on your left is the Main Exit. Take the IKENOHATA Exit so climb up the few steps and get out, and immediately you can see the Kinuya Hotel opposite it. IF you do NOT see the Kinuya Hotel as soon as you're at the Ikenohata exit door, it means you are at the wrong exit. Those who want to use the elevator should take the main exit because that's where the elevator is. As soon as you get out of the elevator, move to your right and at the corner of the terminal building, take another right turn (it's like taking a U-turn to go to the "back" of the terminal/station (Ikenohata exit side). Then walk a few more steps, and the Kinuya Hotel is on your left. Anyway, TO GO AROUND TOKYO from the Kinuya Hotel, you pass through this same gate (Ikenohata) to pass to the OTHER exit (Main Exit) of Keisei-Ueno train station. These two exits are just a few strides opposite each other anyway. You just pass through Keisei Ueno Station to go to Ueno Station. As soon as you go out the Main Exit of Keisei-Ueno station, walk to your left and cross on the first stoplight and that is already the Shinobazu Gate of the UENO STATION. From the Ueno Station, you can go to anywhere in Tokyo.In going back to the Kinuya Hotel, make sure you always look for the SHINOBAZU GATE of the Ueno Station. Across the Shinobazu Gate is the Ameyoko Market. There are many restaurants around, including a 24-Hour Mc Donald's. ATM is at Keisei Ueno Station.

A tight little room with a tighter little bathroom, but everything worked and the bed was comfortable. Stayto (formerly Oak Hotel) is a hostel with some private rooms. The guests were a mix of Japanese and foreigners. The two beds in our room took up most of the space, but it was all quite workable. The bathroom was not much bigger than airplane bathroom, but with a deep little Japanese tub and shower. We admired the engineering of it. Clean and useful. The staff was extremely helpful and had good English. The location, about a five-minute walk from Inarichou underground station, and 15 minutes from Ueno rail station, was excellent for us. We could walk to the museums in beautiful Ueno Park, and further through the older houses and little temples of north Ueno to Yanaka, and the delightful old-fashioned shopping street of Yanaka Ginza. Yanaka was one of the few areas of downtown Tokyo that was not destroyed in the devastating US firebombing of March 1945, when a hundred thousand civilians died in the firestorm and much of the old wooden city vanished. In any case, Stayto's location was excellent in itself, and despite being at the northern edge of downtown, was a good place to get transport from to all parts of the city.

Perfectly located (280m to Inaricho Station; 900m to Ueno station and thus, Ueno Park, Tokyo National Museum, Tokyo Science and Nature Museum, Ueno Zoo, Shinobazu Pond, etc.) so it was easy to get around. Quiet neighborhood with quaint houses and shrines. Plenty of convenience stores, groceries and restaurants nearby. Very clean and comfortable. We got a queen-sized bed for my family of three (seven year old). A wee bit tight but after a whole day of touring and commuting, we didn't really care haha. Pillows and mattresses were great. Room came with basic amenities: small ref with freezer, a desk, bedside panel to control lights, hot shower, bath tub, facial foam, shampoo, conditioner, and my favorite: pajamas! Our room was a bit small so can be a bit challenging if you have plenty of luggage (we had one large and two small). Staff is friendly and helpful. They loan out umbrellas on rainy days. Not for the traveler looking for amenities and facilities such as a gym or pool.

We were a group of 8 person (booked 4 rooms) stayed at the hotel for 2 nights mid December 2016 before going to mt. Fuji. Location is excellent! 5 mins walk from Keisie skyliner station, metro & Ueno JR station, lots of restaurants & 24 hours convenience stores nearby. Hotel staff is super helpful and very polite. Receptionist mostly can converse in English, there's a great guy who speaks fluent Chinese too. With the price we paid, as expected the hotel room is small but our double bed is comfortable. Bathroom is clean and has everything you need - including a heated toilet seat - excellent for winter!!! Before you enter the bedroom, there's a tiny wardrobe space with heater to dry your clothes. But be aware that you cannot open 2 big suitcase at the same time. Overall it's highly recommended and will return if i happen to stop by Ueno again.

I had a very good stay here. Perfect location - just a 3 minute walk from UEno JR station (Asakusa exit), yet it is quite enough at night and in the morning. I must say the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. They let me keep a big baggage 1 day prior to check-in and after check-out. Also they are very welcoming and speak English quite well. The only thing I dislike is the stairs at the entrance of the hotel, making it hard to carry many/heavy baggage. But at the night I left the hotel, a male receptionist gave me a lift by taking my heavy baggage! Would definitely stay in this hotel again for the 2020 Olympic Games!

Located in Ueno, one of the best areas to stay for travellers. There are many options around to explore in short time like Ueno Park hosting many national and art museums, natural sources and even a zoo. We were so lucky that we were able to see an exhibition to see the paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, Modigliani, Picasso. Munch and a fish contest. Hostel is neighbour of convenience stores Family Mart and 7-Eleven and also very close to metro station to stroll in the city. First of all we would like to thank all the staff for being helpful and cheerful from check-in to check-out time. Front desk personnels are all friendly. House keepers cleaned our semi-double room every day and gave us very traditional Japanese garment Kimono to wear in the room. Room is clean enough and has main stuff you may need such as fridge, hair dryer, tv., towels etc. You can also ask for or rent other goods. Hostel also offers a very well equipped shared kitchen for the guests. You can get your stuff and cook as long as you follow the rules for others’ convenience. It is also possible to grab complimentary coffee or tea from the kitchen. Hostel has even a vending machine to get an cold beverage in the lobby. The lobby is traditionlly designed charming you to have a sit and has two computers for public use. You can find leaflets and useful files prepared by management giving ideas what to do and what to eat in Tokyo. In general, hostel looks clean, convenient and safe.
